Battle of the Lipsticks: Natural vs Brights

I had a good old clean up of my make up collection last week and still I’ve managed to count over 30 lip products in my case! I’ve always been a nude lip sorta girl, however lately, I have been venturing out towards the brighter lippies.

As I was going through my load, I thought it would be quite nice to do a comparison of these lipsticks, sort of like a Natural vs Brights!

Natural Vs Bright Lipsticks from L to R: KiKo Creamy Lipstick 397, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Mauve it Over, Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok, Illamasqua Lipstick in Over, Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick 01, Sleek True Colour Papaya Punch and in the front is Inglot AMC Matte Lip Pencil in 27

So I picked out a few tubes of lipsticks, some I use regulary, and some that I tend to wear only when I’m feeling brave. I will show you guys a hand and lip swatch of each so that you can see properly what they all look like.

Before any Lipstick application though, I always have to make sure my lips are rid of any dry or flakiness! I hate nothing more than peeling lipstick! SO not an attractive look! I like to use Lush Lip scrub to take away all the dry skin! Works a treat! NB: I do NOT eat the residue left from the scrub! I know they tell you that you can! but frankly that is plain gross! I much prefer to take it all off with my flannel thank you!

Anyway here is my natural lip colour with a slick of clear lip balm, so that you can see the differences when I show you my lipstick swatches:

Up first are all my Nudes and Naturals, these are the sort of colours I tend to wear everyday, when I’m popping out, shopping, lunch, basically during the day! Here are the hand swatches…

Natural Lipsticks: 1: Kiko Creamy Lipstick 397, 2: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Mauve it Over, 3: Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok and 4: Inglot AMC Matte Lip Pencil in 27

… and me wearing each shade, up first Kiko creamy liptick in 397

Revlon Mauve it over  is the perfect everyday nude, it a lovely mauve shade with a nice tint of pink for that natural lip look!

This Nars Pure Matte Lipstick is probably one of my favourite Natural Lip colours! Its such a pretty pink shade! It’s meant to be a matte, but I think it has a little sheen to it! If you look at the swatch compared to the Inglot swatch you can see an obvious difference in the texture between the two! Also the swatch on their website and its true colour is totally different, on the site its represented as this beige, almost foundation like colour! As you can see in reality its far from that and is actually way better looking!

This Inglot Matte Lip Pencil looks fab in the stick and swatched, but when worn on me, I kinda just looked washed out! I do have this pencil in a few other shades which I love! Including 28 which is a gorgeous deep plum colour! Will have to do a better swatch of that one soon!

Next are my Bright lip stick colours, here are my hand swatches

Bright Lipsticks: 5: Illamasqua Lipstick in Over, 6: Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 01 and 7: Sleek True Colour in Papaya Punch

…and heres me in my brights, I suppose this Illamasqua lipstick in over is an inbetween one. Its bright but still very wearable during the day! I love wearing this one on a sunny day, because its so summery! Although wearing this on gloomy day can also lift your spirits! Cant help but smile when I wear this one!

Next, Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Papaya Punch, I adore this shade too! Its such an uplifting colour! It’s hard to describe, its a vibrant orange with a slight tinge of pink tones! Its super bold but mega flattering too! Love it!

Last but not least, and is my current fave beauty buy! The Rimmel, Lasting Finish Lipstick from the Kate Collection in shade 01! I love how intense this red is! It’s not for the faint hearted and I wouldn’t be brave enough to sport this as a day time lippie, but it looks great for an evening look or statement lip!

So what’s the verdict guys, what will you be wearing this SS2112? Are you more a nice and natural or bright and beautiful sort of girl? I cant seem to decide right now…

Please leave your comments below and thanks for reading guys!

  1. They actually all look great on you, which usually isn’t the case for most people. My favourite lip looks on you are the NARS (nude category) and Rimmel (brights category).

FYI: this was a really interesting post! I like. :)

  2. Shade 5 looks really good on you!! a nice colour for the summer aswell :P:P i think the last red colour washes you out a little bit though, so maybe opt for a brighter red??

    Also, cute blog!!

  3. Great pictures! They’re really helping me in seeing the true color of the lipstick I’m thinking of buying
